Boys Have Big Day At UPenn

On January 9th, the Lions traveled to UPenn's brand new Ott Center and had a day to remember. Senior's Logan Maloney and Kafumba Kiadii captured first place finishes in the 400m dash and the 60m Hurdles. All-American sprinter, Logan Maloney, won the 400 with a time of :49.44, while Kiadii was the only athlete at the event that broke 9 seconds in the 60m Hurdles, winning the event with a time of 8.84 seconds. A pair of freshman, Mason Anderson and Marvin Wright, also both turned in stellar performances in the 200 and 300m dash. Sophomore distance runner, Justin O'Shea, had a breakout performance in the 600m run finishing in fifth place with a time of 1:35. Aside from individual events, the boys had two relay teams capture top five finishes. The boys 4x400m relay captured a second place finish as a team being one of only two teams to run under 3:40, and the boys 4x800m relay finished in fifth place after running a season best in the 3200m relay. Off the track, senior Khalil Epps finished in second place in the High Jump with a mark of 5-06.00. The strong performance from the entire team, the Lions are amped to see what the rest of the season has in store.
Lions Race At Lehigh

Cardinal O'Hara's girls team raced this past Friday, December 13th, at Lehigh University while the boys competed the following day on December 14th. In the individual events on the track for the ladies, Chelsea Kpou and Miatta Stewart finished with the fastest times for the Lions in the 200m and the 60m. The girls team also put together a 4x200m relay that finished in a time of 2:09. The boys team was headlined by a collection of strong performances from the Lions core of underclassmen. Freshmen Noah Richardson and John Paul Gallagher had impressive showings in the 400m and the 3k. Richardson started his season off on the right foot with a 56 second performance in the 400m while Gallagher had the top time of any freshman in the 3k with a mark of 10:30. Justin O'Shea also ran a PR in the 800m with a time of 2:25. Aside from individual performances, the boys team competed in three different relays, including the 4x200, the 4x400, and 4x800. However, the star of the show for the Lions was senior captain Kafumba Kiadii who had a top-15 finish in the 60m hurdles. With Kiadii's performance this past weekend, he secured his spot in the Meet of Champs at the end of the indoor season. With numerous meets remaining before the conclusion of the season, the Lions will continue to build off their gritty performances with the goal of peaking at the right time in March when championship season rolls around.
O'Hara Girls Open Season At Alvernia

The ladies of Cardinal O'Hara began their indoor track season this past Friday, December 6th, at Alvernia University. Junior cross country state qualifier, Charlotte Hiscott, led the distance team on the track with a sub-13 minute performance in the 3k. Freshman, Amelia Christie, also ran a PR in the 800m with a time of 3:12. On the sprinting side of the meet, sophomore Kadisa Crawford finished the 200m with a time of 32.20 while fellow sophomore Temi Owitomo had a top 30 finish in the 400m with a time of 1:12. Off the track, junior Totuweni Rufus and senior Danika Hall both competed in Shot Put, with Rufus throwing an indoor season PR of 24-05.50. The Lions also ran multiple relays throughout the event, fielding teams in the 4x200 and the 4x400. After a positive showing in their first meet of the season, the Lions have much to be excited about as the calendar turns to 2025.
Fast Times Ahead For The Lions

Cardinal O'Hara's track and field program is preparing to open their 2024-2025 campaign in a few weeks at Lehigh University. The Lions are coming off a year that saw them run multiple record breaking times. Throughout the 2023-2024 season, the Lions were able to break the school record in the boys 4x100, 4x200, and 4x400. At the state meet last May, the Lions 4x400 finished 2nd in the state, finishing just .07 seconds behind Coatesville High School. With a 3:13.87 performance, the Lions set a new Catholic League record. The Lions were able to send multiple individuals to state championships during the indoor and outdoor seasons in 2024. At the PCL Outdoor Championships in 2024, the girls team for O'Hara finished 2nd in the league. O'Hara's senior class last year consisted of numerous athletes who will continue their track and field careers at the collegiate level. Senior, Logan Maloney, returns for the Lions this year with the hope of continuing to shatter many of the school records he's already set. Maloney finished 7th in the state last spring in the 200m dash, running a time of 22.49. Throughout the winter and spring, O'Hara will travel to some of the nicest facilities in the Philadelphia region, including indoor meets at the Ott Center, Penn Universities new 70 million dollar indoor track facility. The Lions are excited to continue to add to the historic legacy that previous teams have left behind. O'Hara has had great success on the track over the last few years and this year looks to be much more of the same.
