Lions Ready For Another Year Of Dominance
Updated on 10/28/2024
The term "excellence" shouldn't be thrown around lightly, however the girls basketball program at Cardinal O'Hara has earned the right to call their program one of the best around. Since 2020, the Lions have won three district titles, one Catholic League title, and three state championships. As a whole, the girls basketball program at O'Hara has won nineteen PCL titles and ten District XII titles. Over the past several years, O'Hara has sent numerous players to Division 1 schools like Richmond, Drexel, and Fairfield. In 2021 and 2022, O'Hara won back to back 5A state titles. Since then, they have moved up to 6A, the highest classification in Pennslyvania. The higher level of competition didn't faze the Lions though as they won the 6A title in 2024. Last year, O'Hara concluded their season by cutting down their championship net in Hershey after defeating Spring-Ford 42-26 in the state title game. Despite having lost some key pieces to graduation, O'Hara's roster still returns lots of talent as they prepare for the upcoming season. The new look Lions will feature younger talent this year. Many of O'Hara's underclassmen were able to get valuable experience last year on their way to a state title. Those underclassmen will look to use what they learned last year as they ready themselves for a bigger role within the team this year. On the court, the Lions are coached by O'Hara and La Salle Alum, Chrissie Doogan. Doogan has been been leading the charge for O'Hara for over half a decade. Doogan is also the first and only coach in O'Hara's school history to win multiple state titles. Every passing season brings new challenges and obstacles, but the Lions have proven that they can handle any adversity thrown their way. O'Hara is ready for another exciting winter that will hopefully be capped off with more championship hardware. The Lions kick off their season on December 6th at home against Wilson High School. The 2025 Lions are back on the hunt.
