Lions Finish Off The Season On A Strong Note
Updated on 10/18/2024
2024 marked a new era of O'Hara girls soccer. In 2023, the Lions finished fourth in the Catholic League, led by a superb senior class of eleven. After losing double digit players to graduation, O'Hara looked to retool in 2024 with a new group of young athletes. Throughout the season, the young Lions showed much promise, including multiple double digit wins against Penn Wood and Monsignor Bonner and Archbishop Prendergast. Playing within the Philadelphia Catholic League is no easy task, despite the difficulty of their competition, O'Hara stood tough in many league match ups. Through the many ups and downs that a season provides, coaches Dave Cornish and Alyssa Spiotta provided stability for their young lineup. This season provided many new Lions an opportunity to get a taste of what varsity level soccer feels like within the PCL. Over the course of the season, it became very clear that many of the Lady Lions were progressing in the right direction. O'Hara ended their season on a two game win streak that saw the Lions defeat Friends Central and Interboro. Despite having a lot of young talent, the upperclassmen that returned from last year's team provided much leadership throughout 2024. The leadership that the upperclassmen provided and the mentoring that coaches gave, allowed for the development of many new faces within the program. As O'Hara moves forward and looks ahead, they will use the lessons they learned throughout the 2024 season to continue to get better. At the conclusion of the season, the Lions finished the year with a record of 7-10-1. As time passes, hopefully O'Hara will be able to say that this was the season that ignited something special within the girls soccer program. The 2025 Lions are surely poised to make some noise!
